The surgery is customized, with the goal of restructuring the ears, so they lie nicely against the head, framing the face rather than standing out and drawing attention.

How does ear surgery work?

Depending on the condition of the patient, ear surgery requires removing some of the ear cartilage to allow the ears to lie parallel to the head rather than protruding. For patients with congenital ear issues, such as shell-shaped ears, asymmetrical ears, or misshapen ears, or ears damaged by trauma, a custom surgical plan is crafted to deliver the most natural, balanced ear appearance.

Ear surgery for children

Children can usually undergo ear reshaping surgery at age five or six. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia to ensure the child is completely comfortable and does not suffer any pain, discomfort, or trauma. If your child was born with ears that are misshapen, overly protruding, or curled at the top, these conditions can be resolved surgically by our double-board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon in a safe, state-of-the-art clinic.

Ear surgery for adults

Many adults have spent their lives trying to hide protruding ears or have larger earlobes or other aesthetic issues they have dreamt of changing. When the ear issues are resolved, it can be life-changing, allowing the individual to feel more confident, wearing shorter or pulled-back hairstyles.

Transform your look with custom ear surgeryat Moradi MD

If you feel your ears are too prominent, stick out too far, or constantly draw attention away from your most attractive facial features, ear surgery can transform your self-image. Once the ears are corrected, rather than attracting attention, they pleasantly frame your face, barely noticed by others.

How does ear surgery work?

For overly protruding ears, a section of cartilage is removed from the back of the ear to allow the structure to lie flat against the head. The incision sites are then sutured, and the ears protected with surgical dressings. For other aesthetic ear problems, the procedure will reflect the ear appearance and condition and will be customized to create the most natural look possible. The incisions are placed behind the ears or in the ear creases, where they will be virtually invisible after healing.

What is the recovery time after ear surgery?

Ear surgery has a recovery time of ten days to two weeks and is usually easy to experience. The process of healing cartilage takes some time, but your ears will look far better lying against the head within a short time. Some swelling is expected.

You will need to keep your head elevated during the early stages of healing, including during sleeping hours. Your ears will feel numb at first, with sensation slowly returning. Take any medications as prescribed and wear the compression headband as directed.
