I really don’t take enough time to care for my skin. Like, at all. For a woman my age, it really ought to be more of a concern when it comes to my beauty routine and I think it’s starting to show. Some of it could be the state of the world and the fact that I’ve spent a year interacting chiefly with people under the age of 6, but I look tired. And a bit dull. And no amount of distracting people with my hair is changing that.
So, when I got the opportunity to try a DiamondGlow facial the other day, I was all for it. And, frankly, I was right to be! Am I amazingly looking 10 years younger? No. But do I look and feel better than I did when I walked in for my appointment? I sure do!
What is DiamondGlow Exactly?
The DiamondGlow facial, formerly known as Dermal Infusion, is something of a 3-in-1 system that exfoliates, extracts and infuses all at once. The diamond part of the DiamondGlow comes in with the use of a diamond tip of select coarseness to exfoliate the skin and remove the outer layer of dead skin cells (the very ones making me look dull and yucky all the time). The idea of diamonds moving across my face sounded harsh and a bit scratchy when I first thought about it, but it really wasn’t! It was explained to me as similar to the sensation of being licked by a cat and, you know what? Not inaccurate! That honestly is a good description of the sensation and the level of abrasiveness I felt. Not at all uncomfortable.
The diamond exfoliating tip is used in tandem with a closed-loop vacuum system that made me think of a wishbone. This wishbone shaped wand is attached to an apparatus that both supplies the serum to be infused and collects the extracted impurities. So not only do you feel the impurities being sucked out of your pores, you can literally see it all collected in a jar (which they show you – apparently I’ve been walking around with a ton of yuckiness in my pores for who knows how long!).
As it’s pulling out the impurities, it’s also infusing the skin with a Skin Medica Pro-infusion Serum. There are five serum options available to fit your specific skincare concerns: Vitamin C, Pore Clarifying, Skin Brightening, Ultra Hydrating and the signature TNS Advanced+. All of these serums are sulphate/sulphite-free, paraben-free, and fragrance-free and allow your provider to customize your treatment to you no matter what skin-type you have.
The Results
My skin is typically fairly easy to care for, what you would define as “normal” skin with exceptions for hormonal or stress related acne. Of course, a year of wearing a mask has irritated it more than usual and I’ve seen more than my share of flare ups in the areas where the mask and straps rub against my face. I’ve seen a few more fine lines around my eye area lately and several little splotchy areas with a bit more redness than I’d like to show the world.
After cleansing and assessing my skin, we decided on the Ultra Hydrating serum. For about 45 minutes I lay back and let them do their thing as they did three or four passes over my face and once over my neck with the wand. The process is even gentle enough for them to do my eye area and lips. And when it was done, after I’d checked out the jar of grossness they pulled out of my pores, I got dressed and checked myself out in the mirror.
I was glowing! Dewy and glowing. It was amazing. I never glow (even when I was at that stage of pregnancy when a woman is supposed to be her most lovely – nuthin’), but I looked fantastic. My skin felt smooth and firm and radiant. Plumper. Brighter.
They set me up with some great post-facial products, told me to stay out of the sun and sent me out into the world. No downtime, no post-facial irritation… just beautiful skin. I haven’t felt that I looked this good without makeup in as long as I can remember. I even snapped a makeup-free selfie! (#nofilter) I remember actually thinking that, if I had a time machine, I would have scheduled a DiamondGlow facial on my wedding day or before I had my babies. I’ll definitely be scheduling one before our next set of family photos.
I’m totally intrigued at the idea of repeating the process. DiamondGlow works wonderfully as an event facial before a special occasion, but also provides continued improvement with repeated treatments. If one go around could make me feel this good, imagine how I’d feel after several? A single treatment can cost between $150-300, but the results completely justify the price. 100% worth it.
