What does rhinoplasty surgery entail?

Every rhinoplasty in Carlsbad & Oceanside, CA, is different, and each surgical plan is custom crafted for the individual. Generally, the surgery involves one of two approaches, open or closed.

In a closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are placed within the nostrils, but this approach is only possible for minor corrections.

Open rhinoplasty involves placing an incision at the base of the columella, the strip of tissues between your nostrils. This allows Dr. Moradi full access to the nasal structure to reshape the bone and cartilage, creating balance and harmony.

What is the procedure?

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and will require several hours. To add height and structure to the bridge, your natural cartilage can be harvested and transferred to create balance and definition.

If the nose has a hump on the bridge, the cartilage and bone will be corrected and reduced in size to create a straight, elegant line. For a drooping tip, cartilage and skin will be removed, and the nose tip reshaped to appear balanced. Your custom surgical plan may include repairing the inner nasal structure for healthy breathing function.

Recovery from rhinoplasty

After your rhinoplasty, you can return home under the care of another adult. On the first day you will want to rest, still feeling some effects of the anesthesia. You can expect swelling and bruising around the eyes for about one to two weeks. After the initial swelling and bruising have subsided, you will be ready to show off your new look in social and business situations, typically in about two to three weeks. The healing process takes time. Residual swelling and the final results will take many months, although your nose will look fantastic long before that time. In about six weeks, you can return to vigorous exercise and will be able to wear glasses again.
